DOUGLAS, JULY 10, 2009 -- A public "Upscale Sale"
offering higher-value, community-donated items, plus a night-before
"Sneak Peek" party offering a preview and advance buying
opportunity, is planned for Friday and Saturday, July 17 & 18, at
the Old School House, 130 Center Street, in Douglas.
The Friday evening preview
party runs from 5:30 to 8:30pm, with $15 admission that includes one
free drink from the event's cash bar. The Saturday sale, admission
free, runs from 9am to 3pm, featuring an eclectic selection ranging
from antiques, artworks, musical instruments and cameras to cottage
furniture, pottery, light fixtures and dinnerware. |
Proceeds will benefit the Saugatuck/Douglas
Historical Society's many volunteer-driven programs and its Old
School House Project -- a commitment to convert the 1860's vintage
Douglas-Union School into a unique community Discovery Center where
children and adults alike can explore the area's genealogy, history,
culture, ecology and architecture.
Listed on both the Michigan and National
Registers of Historic Places, The Old School House is one of the
oldest multi-classroom school buildings in Michigan and considered
one of the finest examples of 19th century school architecture in
America.
