Reninga

Bill & Betty Reninga were from Oak Park, IL and met at the Oak Park River Forest HS.

The 1st Presbyterian Church in Oak Park was a pipeline to Shorewood.  Their Shorewood cottage was built in 1924.  Bill worked for Bill McVea’s Grocery Store as a delivery person.  He delivered kerosene.  The cottages had kerosene lamps and stoves.

Changes seen –nothing radical –still a safe place.

Shorewood road was wood planks and gravel.  They recall building rafts and boats and used wagon wheels to support a portable diving board. They controlled beach erosion by putting sand bags in a v formation to hold the sand.  College students worked on this.
